Recapping Token2049 and Solana Breakpoint 2024
Three nights in Singapore and the world’s your oyster.
This past weekend, Asian nation played host to two of the most anticipated events in the blockchain and cryptocurrency space: Token2049 and Solana Breakpoint 2024. These conferences, held from September 18-21, 2024, brought together industry leaders, innovators, and enthusiasts from around the world, showcasing the latest developments and shaping the future of the blockchain ecosystem.
Here’s what you need to know.
Token2049
Token2049 featured keynote speeches from industry heavyweights, panel discussions on various topics, and showcases of innovative projects across blockchains.
Some of the major announcements made during Token2049 include:
Binance’s new decentralized exchange (DEX). It’s been a big week for the exchange. Binance founder and former CEO Changpeng “CZ” Zhao is enjoying his first day out tha feds today after serving a four-month stint for failing to stop money laundering through the exchange. But the business itself is alive and well, announcing plans to launch its first decentralized exchange, a departure for the world’s largest centralized cryptocurrency exchange.
FTX’s revival and expansion. FTX — another major cryptocurrency exchange with an embattled founder, albeit one who’s probably not having his first day out anytime soon — announced its plans to expand its operations into Southeast Asia. This expansion highlighted the region’s growing importance in the global cryptocurrency market.
Integration of Polygon. Polygon, a layer-2 scaling solution for Ethereum, announced its integration with several blockchain projects. This integration aimed to improve the scalability and efficiency of these projects.
Solana Breakpoint
Solana Breakpoint 2024 featured talks from Solana’s founders, deep dives into Solana’s technology, and announcements from Solana-based projects.
Some of the major announcements made during Solana Breakpoint include:
Solana’s mainnet upgrade. Solana announced a significant upgrade to its mainnet to improve the network’s scalability and performance.
Integration with DeFi protocols. Several DeFi protocols announced their integration with the Solana blockchain, expanding the ecosystem of decentralized applications on the network.
Solana-based DeFi platform launches. A new DeFi platform built on the Solana blockchain was launched, offering users various decentralized financial services.
Solana Mobile unveils Seeker. This next-gen blockchain phone has already racked up hundreds of thousands of pre-orders, and comes at the perfect time, as Ethereum also recently decided to get into the web3 mobile game.
The most cutting-edge tech drop since the GameBoy Advance SP. Play Solana announced the “first handheld gaming device built on Solana”. Check out the comment section of this tweet for a quick schadenfreude fix, but jokes aside, innovation that tickles our nostalgia receptors is always welcome.
Token2049 and Solana Breakpoint 2024 played a crucial role in driving the growth and development of the blockchain and cryptocurrency industry. These conferences provided a platform for industry leaders to share their insights, for innovators to showcase their projects, and for investors to connect with promising startups. The announcements made at these events have significant implications for the future of the industry and will likely drive further growth and innovation.

Daydreams With AI Sounds in the Background
The market is finally starting to heat up, so naturally I’m completely checked out of the web3 news cycle. And no, it’s not just because I feed off FUD, okay? (Although, yes, I obviously do.) Rather, it’s grind season at playhaus HQ, and most of our day-to-day work still revolves around repetitive web2 activities like WordPress sites, Facebook Ads, and deploying the occasional Google Cloud scripting cron job.
So thank God for Muhammed keeping us all in the loop. Yours truly very much included, because I’m certainly not in a place to dedicate the appropriate headspace to bask in this post-Breakpoint glow up. The week’s been so busy that I’m actually writing this day of. Not best practice, I’ll admit — evinced by the fact that, despite having ample news to choose from, I couldn’t bring myself to give a shit about the crypto markets. Builders keep building, scammers keep scamming, and while I still believe the $mother of all bull runs is on the horizon, the path to get there may well be a long slog.
So what did I decide to do instead of writing a proper article?
An AI-generated music video. But make it web3. Because I also went ahead and minted it for .23 SOL here for anyone who wants to be my first music patron. (I know one of y’all is on the same degenerate, homesteading bumpkin wave as me.)
My input was mainly limited to the lyrics that I wrote for the song and the prompt I gave for it to style the lyrics, compose the music, and generate the visualizer. Now, I wrote the lyrics in probably 15-30 minutes, and maybe 3 minutes writing my prompt, so it’s certainly the technical equivalent of an MVP. But after 2 generation attempts, where the AI did all the heavy lifting in about 5 minutes, I got something I thought was alright.
The tool I used was called Udio. They give you about 20 free tries to make a good song — enough to create a sample LP if you have a solid enough project concept.
The NFT component is purely pandering to the audience I have at hand and a need to fundraise for this work we do if we ever truly want to dedicate time to our web3 vision.
But until then, I trade tokens and services to get ahead.
